How Money Works

HOW MONEY WORKS

The first video listed is an overview of how money works in society. It is well put together and is kind of fun to watch as it is animated. It takes about 45 min.

The second is an in depth look into the origins and history of money. This video is about 3 & 1/2 hours and well worth it.

They are both considered FOUNDATIONAL videos.

A little background, from The Bible, which may be helpful.

Mat 6:19 Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal:
Mat 6:20 But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal:
Mat 6:21 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.
Mat 6:22 The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light.
Mat 6:23 But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is that darkness!
Mat 6:24 No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.
Mat 6:25 Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment?
Mat 6:26 Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they?
Mat 6:27 Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature?
Mat 6:28 And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin:
Mat 6:29 And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.
Mat 6:30 Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith?
Mat 6:31 Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed?
Mat 6:32 (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things.
Mat 6:33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.
Mat 6:34 Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.

Verse 24 states you cannot serve God and mammon
Verse 33 Seek 1st the kingdom of God, and his righteousness

Mammon - carries the idea of wealth, but not simply wealth, it is deifying wealth, or making it to be a god. Mammon is defined as 1. riches, avarice, and worldly gain personified as a false god... 2. Riches regarded as an object of worship or an evil influence.

Webster defined Avarice as An inordinate desire of gaining and possessing wealth; covetousness; greediness or insatiable desire of gain.
He then added, "Avarice sheds a blasting influence over the finest affections and sweetest comforts of mankind." -Webster's Dictionary 1828

The Bible warns us of many things, one of particular interest at this point is that in the last days it speaks of man becoming more and more covetous (Inordinately desirous; excessively eager to obtain and possess; directed to money or goods, avaricious.)

Jesus is reminding us, in the above passage, that our 'god' is not to be mammon.

In the last days...
2 Tim 3:2 For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, (read the whole chapter sometime)

"But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition. For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows." I Timothy 6:9-10
